Listen: The Bad Lovers - Back Away From Me
The Bad Lovers released their album Actin’ Strange on Sunday, after listening to it nearly on repeat this week I can say with confidence that from start to finish this is one of the best rock albums to drop this year, “Back Away From Me” is a perfect example of why.
These guys out of Austin,TX bring an energetic modern touch to the whole roots-rock sound which is becoming the face of indie music lately. I’ve been hearing for months about how great of a live show they put on and finally got a chance to see it for myself (twice) last week. Some bands can’t deliver on the hype, The Bad Lovers on the other hand exceed it.
One of the best moments I’ve experienced at a show was when they closed out there Tuesday night set at this dive bar called The Sahara Lounge with “You And I.” This is an anthem in every sense of the word and the crowd was one hundred percent into it, singing word-for-word along with the band in a arms-around-each-others-shoulders swing-your-mug kind of way… it was an amazing thing to take part in. When I caught them playing for a packed Spider House on Sunday the effect was the same, everyone filled with energy and a burning desire to share the moment as one.
I’ve always envisioned this sort of communion as being commonplace at shows, only as I’ve grown older and have had the opportunity to see just how rare it is I’m left with only one piece of advice… when you get a chance to see The Bad Lovers live don’t think twice about going, they represent all that is true and pure in a sea of mediocrity and carbon copy trends, make sure to celebrate with them.
