Black Moth Super Rainbow’s Dandelion Gum, their 2007 junior effort, blew my mind. That album was filled with textures unknown to even be made in music. Baffled, I listened on to the rest of their body of work, and I was enthralled. The experimentation and soundscapes that were brought out were mind-blowing. It even had a scratch-and-sniff album cover.
“Windshield Smasher” is only another piece of the already intense and jarring puzzle. The wavy bass and distorted guitar-esque sounding noises drive the track to a whole new place when the hook hits. The lyrics are never ever prominent in this song or any other by BMSR. But I can’t help but admit the ending lyric, “Subliminally in my sleep.” makes me smile. I can’t help it.
BMSR’s newest venture, Cobra Juicy, was funded by Kickstarter. It shall be released on October 9. They’ve also announced a tour for the upcoming album.
