Listen: Carnivals - Humility EP (Full Stream)

Carnivals - Humility EP cover art

It’s just under a month since we had our first taste of Carnivals’ new material, and already there’s a follow-up fix. This is the kind of publishing schedule I can get on board with. The whole of his Humility EP is now streaming via Soundcloud, and you can check it out below.

“Meandering” might not immediately seem like a complimentary way to describe an album, but in this case it’s meant in a very positive way. From the very first seconds of opener “Contrails”, it’s clear that Stewart wants us to get lost with him; surrounding us with glitched loops of industrial noise, reverb-laden chimes, and far-off, wordless vocals. Right when you expect the drop, he backs off completely. It’s a lovely piece of production and I found myself totally enraptured.

It does drop, eventually - a word to the wise: listen using something that can handle sub-bass. As with “Absences”, the real trick is that the whole is so restrained, the drop itself feels massive despite being objectively understated. That sensitivity and control lasts the whole length of the EP.

Carnivals is already gaining traction and mounting respect, and Humility only cements those early impressions. Stream the whole thing, and follow the links for more. Mr Green is very much one to watch.
