Listen: Youngblood Hawke - We Come Running
With the recent release of their debut self-titled EP, newcomers Youngblood Hawke creates some of the catchiest, sugary music I’ve heard in a while.
With some of the most infectious indie pop I’ve ever heard, the five-piece should be filed next to guys like fun. and Foster The People due to their crossover appeal - though with a more indie-friendly sound. Lead singer Sam Martin describes their sound as having elements of pop, rock, indie, and dance, which is illustrated in lead single (and free single of the week on iTunes!), “We Come Running”.
Imagine the perfect “pop” song - a sunny song that appeals to the indie kids and mainstream alike - that’s “We Come Running”. It’s got Martin’s flawless vocals, a chorus that can only be described as soaring, massive build-ups and crescendos, plenty of ”wo-oah”s, what sounds like a backing children’s choir, as well as some adorable bells.
I see big things coming for these guys, but in the meantime, I’ll just keep listening to “We Come Running” - which should be on everyone’s end-of-the-summer soundtrack.
